I was just wondering… How much would a green house cost for my school? Like, if my school started a garden and use their harvested crops to be served in the cafeteria instead of buying the vegetables from other places…
Consider these:
-700 students in the school
-We’re in a place that snows in the winter. So we need some type of heating system to keep the plants growing year round
-Equipment for hydroponic gardening
-Building the structure for the greenhouse and all

I’m wondering how much it would take to get started, not how much it will take if we keep it going/maintenance
I’m not actually gonna suggest it to my school. I know it’s never gonna happen. So please stop telling me “Don’t do it.” I simply want to know how much it would cost.

Best answer:

Answer by Sarah Q
way too much
not worth it

Truth be told, sun’s energy are generally concentrated coming from the southern hemisphere throughout winter and it’s best that the design of virtually any greenhouses for sale to make use of all the sun rays in the daytime by revealing its entirety to the southern course and if possible, rest the north structure to the house or perhaps some other existing framework for the intention of strengthened insulation.

Think about keeping a large barrel of water within the greenhouse and make sure to paint its external surfaces by using a black coloring with the intention that it will absorb just as much heat energy as it is possible whilst the sun is up during the day seeing that when the night comes, the heat energy it has amassed will certainly be discharged and dissipated that can provide additional heat to help keep every little thing in the suitable temperature.

If possible, use insulating material if you think maybe it can be applied to the greenhouse such as using foam sheet in covering a plastic structure or utilizing a double glazed intended for glass structure since it is very important to hold the heat energy inside for so long as is feasible so as to reduce cost for additional heating solutions.

In relation to the use of supplemental heat options, you can consider making use of multi fuel stove mainly because it can accept timber, coal and in many cases biomass such as corn as a fuel in order to generate heat and in case you actually use one, ensure that you assemble an effective outlet for ashes because it is obviously not good to contaminate the plants with it.

Lastly, don’t forget that as long as you diligently maintain the right temperature inside greenhouses for sale, it is for certain that the plants will flourish and will grow without any problem and make sure that you prepare something that will protect the structure in case a strong storm comes along.

Question by yeildsign: Is building a small green house and growing / selling potted plants to local nurseries a lucrative business?
I have worked at a garden center for 5 years during which I have learned a lot about plants and the inner workings of the nursery business. Recently I have been considering building a small green house and selling plants locally. If I wanted to make this worth my while… How big does the nursery need to be? About how many plants do I need to grow? And what types of plants have good mark-up value and are fairly easy to grow? Any and all advice welcome! Thanks for your help!

My wife uses this site. Before she would kill everything! Now she keeps bugging me to give her more garden space because she likes the “organic” veggies she can grow now!
I don’t have the heart to tell her that just because you use organic dirt doesn’t mean it’s all organic!

Ok, I bought 2 rose bushes the other day. They are hybrid tea roses. I haven’t planted them yet. I was wondering does the soil need anything special for them to grow. I bought some Miracle Grow Garden soil to mix in with the soil that is already outside. How much mulch should I put around them? I read that you should put 3 inches of mulch on top of them. I asked the lady at the green house about them and she told me to just plant them in any soil and to fertilize them every two week and they should be fine. I bought the Miracle Grow for Roses. Also I live in Wisconsin, so I was wondering what do I need to do before winter to protect them? Since the temp. sometimes drop to 20 below or colder at times at night. I have never tried to grow roses before but decided to this year since I like them so much. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer by mommyof2beautyqueens
Just put enough soil on to cover them. I don’t do anything in the winter, but I do cut them back for spring. I cut mine back to the green part. They are easy to care for just be careful you don’t get poked.
