Question by schie2005: help with my mini roses?
my husband bought me a mini rose bush for v-day. i love in florida and i put them outside they start turning yellow. what should i do to keep them alive. it says they need sun but cant get any if i leave them inside. help

If they had been used to lower light while they were wherever they were before they came to you, then putting them outside in full sun all at once would be a bit of a shock, and would “burn” them.

Plants that have been grown inside need to be acclimated. Put them in the sun for a few hours – or in a protected spot outside that naturally gets just a few hours of direct sun a day. Gradually increase the exposure until they are handling the amount of sun they will get in the spot you eventually wish to transplant them too.

I’m assuming you are keeping the soil moist if it’s in a pot. Pots outside dry much quicker than plants in the ground.

After transplanting, water with a root stimulator – which encourages it to establish itself in the ground. You can fertilize it later, after it has recovered from the transition.

Question by : Can I order roses and a framed picture online for my girlfriend?
This may be a wierd request. But does anyone know of a place that I can order roses, and also send them a picture or two as a jpeg file and have them print it in Black & White, put it in a frame, and deliver the roses and the pictures to my girlfriend in Los Angeles? I know I can get flowers but not sure about the picture thing.

Question by : how do you protect hardwood garden furniture?
Need to protect my teak garden furniture set with something-the old coat of varnish peeled off and i’ve now sanded it all down. Is varnish the best thing to use or is there an oil/wax or that might work better to protect from the sun/rain/hot/cold?

Teak should not be varnished.
Seal/ protect it with teak oil

Varnish on any outdoor wood will eventually peel and as you probably know,
is a pain to smooth or remove prior to re-coating.

You may get some spotting/ color discolorations on areas where you fail to remove all the old varnish so the oil can soak into the wood.
Just keep using the oil as needed and as additional peeling occurs and the finish will eventually even out.

Question by parent: How do you do gardening and yard work without getting dirty?
I have to be able to drop everything at a moments notice to be available to help someone. No they can’t be held up for me to get all cleaned up either.
