Methane production

Methane or bio-gas is a blend of CH4 and CO2 say about 70% to 29% exhibiting other gases as well. This is produced in small pits and the gas is piped into their homes. Cow waste of 2 or 3 cows is enough to hook up gas line for few families and to provide light.

Methane production cannot be started immediately nor can be stopped abruptly. The methane producing microbes demand continuous organic substance feeding for their survival. Methane gas is the best substitute to gasoline combustion as it breaks into water and carbon dioxide when it is burnt in the combustible engines. It can be easily produced using organic waste as it burns clean and as the organic waste is in plentiful in households; the production of methane is possible. The methane digesters eradicate tons of landfill waste that cause global warming by producing methane and also reduce the fossil fuels usage in the aim of transportation.

Cattle and sheep are ruminants that make use of bacteria for the fermentation of food while digesting their food and the same bacteria are also responsible in methane production that is released into the atmosphere through flatulence and belching. It has also been observed that cattle and sheep produce less methane. However, every option has limits from other sources of concerns and the methane problem is also approached to decrease the levels of new problems from being created.
