He’ll turn 17 next week and I’m deathly afraid for him! Yes, his mom (and me, to some extent) have protected him from the world…but he keeps announcing that he’ll move out right after graduation and live with friends! (He means it)
Still, he has never had a real job, NO idea what it costs to live where we are (NOT cheap!) and thinks he’s going to make it by pooling resources w/friends and gigs in his rock band! We haven’t discouraged the latter thing, as it IS very good, but that’s not the point!
He is very "alternative" and usually dresses in skin-tight, black clothes and wears pink "Hello Kitty" shirts, etc. WE have no problem with this, and lucky for him, our area is VERY tolerant of difference, but he seems COMPLETELY oblivious about how average Americans might see him (he’s CONSTANTLY called "gay", which is rare where we live) and has no concept of money. When we try to talk to him, he just gets angry. HOW can talk sense into him…or should we let him find out the hard way?
P.S.: Anyone who tells us to send him to "boot camp" or to "just straighten up"…PLEASE don’t bother writing! That is not our style. Also, we’re NOT gonna do what Dubya’s family did and FORCE him to "find ‘God’ "! He’s really a great kid, intelligent, kind, good-looking and compassionate…just clueless!
