In this kind of category a person could give info to others about how to maybe rebuild a car engine so that it will run entirely on water instead of petroleum fossil fuel. This is just one example of self sufficiency. This would be a really cool category I think, but what do you think about it?

Go here: http://suggestions.yahoo.com/detail/?prop=answers&fid=235621
Yahzmin: So you don’t agree that this sort of topic should be here at Y!A. Well, we all have our opinions, but the reason why I think this would be a good idea is because those individuals who have a working knowledge of self sufficiency could give those of us who seek it in the right direction. Self sufficiency is ALMOST a science and should be placed into the science category I think.

Best answer:

Answer by Laredo
It seems like a good idea to me, I have given it a thumbs up vote on the suggestion board. Although I like your idea, we would need to take care in that category that it does not become a ‘chat’ category.

Not sure how I would answer this question. Can anyone help me out here?

Best answer:

Answer by Eric Suggs
This question is best answered by using an example.

Lets say you and I are the only people in an economy, and our economy only produces 2 goods: chairs and pizza.

I went to school to become a carpenter, although I made pizza all throughout school and you went to school to be a chef.

You can make we can both make 20 pizzas per hour, but I can make 4 chairs per hour while you can only make 2.

We will look at two possibilities, one is that I specialize and make only chairs for 10 hours, you make pizza for 10 hours. The other is that we both split our time between the two products.

So we specialize, 4 chairs x 10 hours = 40 chairs and 20 pizzas x 10 hours is 200 pizzas so a total of 40/200 of our products.

If we split our time, I make 4 chairs x 5 hours and 20 pizzas x 5 hours = 100 pizzas and 20 chairs

you make 2 chairs x 5 hours and 20 pizzas x 5 hours = 100 pizzas and 10 chairs

That totals to 30/200 so we have the same amount of pizzas but less chairs overall.

Even though I have an ABSOLUTE advantage in making chairs, you have no absolute advantages over me. But you do have a COMPARATIVE advantage in making pizzas because you can trade pizzas to get chairs and gain from the trade with me, and more is produced overall between us.

Give your answer to this question below!

As a women who is half that age I like to know how to use power tools and am good at what was once “man jobs.”. My male peers know how to wash clothes, cook, even sew a bit. But some of these old men won’t lift a finger in domestic work and can’t work a toaster? Can you explain what the fear is? it’s generational for sure, but it seems helpless to me, at an age when self autonomy is really important.

Best answer:

Answer by Frank
They don’t see cooking as a valuable example of self-sufficiency. They see it as a “woman’s work”, which for that generation is something that is not good for a man to be doing.

In my generation, a woman shows she is capable by wearing a jock strap with a protective cup. I don’t understand why some women see themselves as above doing such things.

I’m exaggerating, but the point is that your values of what a man and woman should do are different than theirs.

What do you think? Answer below!
